Pre-Algebra1 Credit
This course will develop the foundational skills necessary for successful completion of Common Core Algebra. Topics of study include but are not limited to: Variables and Operations on Algebraic Expressions, Multiple Representations of Linear Equations, Proportions, Systems of Equations, Quadratics and Inequalities. Students must successfully complete Pre-Algebra with a minimum average of 65 to move on to Algebra I.
Algebra I
1 Credit
In this course students will explore a variety of topics within algebra including linear, exponential, quadratic, and polynomial equations and functions. Students will achieve fluency in solving linear and quadratic equations as well as with manipulation of polynomials using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and factoring. Students will understand the key differences between linear and exponential functions. Students learn to model problems using algebra, functions, sequences and statistics. This course is aligned to the Next Generation State Standards for Algebra I. Prerequisite: Math 8 final exam grade above 75
Geometry
1 Credit
Geometry is intended to be the second course in mathematics for high school students. In this course, students develop an understanding of the attributes and relationships of two- and three-dimensional geometric shapes that can be applied in diverse contexts. Students will explore these contexts using the tools of Euclidean geometry, rigid motion transformations, dilations and similarity, coordinate geometry, right triangle trigonometry, and other geometric theorems. Students will learn how to prove various geometric facts about geometric objects, including triangles, quadrilaterals, and circles, by using axiomatic proofs and coordinate geometry proofs. Finally, students will model real world objects using geometric formulas for perimeter, area, and volume. Three dimensional objects such as prisms, pyramids, cones, cylinders, and spheres will be used in a variety of models. This course is aligned to the Next Generation Learning Standards for Geometry. Prerequisite: Algebra 1
Non-Regents Geometry
1 Credit
Non-Regents Geometry continues students’ early study of geometric concepts and applied Algebra. This course is intended for students that have successfully completed Algebra 1, desire a math course that prepares them for further academic study, but does not intend to major in mathematics or science. Much of the NYS Geometry Common Core curriculum will be covered within the class, but at a slower, more student-based progression. Included topics will be: Lines and Angles, Perpendicular and Parallel Lines, Triangles, Quadrilaterals, Similar Polygons, Right Triangle Trigonometry, Circles, Polygons and Area, Solids and Nets, Surface Area and Volume, and Transformations. Prerequisite: Algebra 1
Algebra II
1 Credit
Algebra II is the capstone course of the three high school mathematics courses. It focuses on building student knowledge of linear, quadratic and exponential functions from Algebra I. Students in Algebra II extend their repertoire of functions to include polynomial, rational, radical and trigonometric functions. Students work closely with the expressions that define the functions and continue to expand and hone their abilities to model situations and tosolve equations, including solving quadratic equations over a set of complex numbers, and solving exponential equations using the properties of logarithms. This course is aligned to the Next Generation Learning Standards for Algebra II. Prerequisite: Regents Geometry
